City commences with Rosmead Avenue roads project

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate will be commencing with the widening and resurfacing of Rosmead Avenue between Broad Road and Ottery Road this week. The City asks that road users and businesses in Wynberg and surrounds remain patient while the necessary roadworks are under way. The project is scheduled to be complete in May 2023.
Work will commence during the course of this week and will take place on Monday to Friday from 09:00 until 15:00. Commuters who make use of this stretch of road are advised that the works will be done while accommodating traffic in both directions. Traffic will be deviated away from the works.
Residents are advised that there will be a few nights in the beginning and at the end of April where night work will be required from 21:00 to 04:00 for the asphalt resurfacing to be done. During the night work, traffic will only be accommodated along one direction of Rosmead Avenue while the other direction of traffic flow will be accommodated on a deviation along Ottery Road/Brisbane Road.
The roadworks along Rosmead Avenue will entail the following:
• Widening a 40 m section of Rosmead Avenue just south of Broad Road
• Installing a new traffic light at the intersection of Rosmead Avenue and Broad Road
• Installation of sections of kerb, channel, kerb inlets and two stormwater culvert crossings
• Removing the existing surfacing and replacing with asphalt

Rosmead Avenue falls within one of the busy corridors in the southern suburbs so it is very important that we find ways to improve the road and maintain the infrastructure. We can assure residents that our aim is to complete the work as soon as possible and thank them for their patience while work is under way,' said the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
